GRANNA TAKES A STAND!

If you know me, Granna, you would know I have never been a person to get angry, much less, rant and rave about something that upsets me.  I’m usually pretty positive; in fact there have been times I have been told I am too positive!  Today was a different kind of day; a Granna speaks out day, right here, right now, in this blog.  Welcome to the other side of Granna!

Friday is Jude, Reid and Granna day; just me and my grandsons enjoying our time together doing a variety of things.  Jude is four and Reid is almost six months old.  My age… never!

When they got to my house on this particular Friday morning we were excited to plan out the day!  What adventures will we have today?  We decided on a trip to the library to take back movies and books only to get more, look for outside toys, and decide on what color of rose bush to plant.  Then, after looking at reviews from a Christian perspective on www.pluggedin.com we decided on going to the theater to see The Lego Movie because they gave it a 4.5 rating!  What an exciting day we had planned!  So, we are all buckled up in the van and off we go!

With the boys in tow we enter where the movie is playing and realize we have the whole place to ourselves!  Awesome!  It is 11:55 and time for the movie to start!  Well, the theater manager was having difficulty getting the film to work so the movie didn’t start until 25 minutes later; which was fine because I knew they were trying.  So, the movie started at 12:20.  We walked out at 12:40; there were words, violence, sexual and immoral inuendos used.  Not only do my grandsons deserve better but I must die to self again and follow the perfect, golden rule; WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?).   Although The Lego Movie got a great rating from a “Christian perspective”, there are things that we as Christians either are blinded by or compromise to; we have become so complacent and allowing what we call “little” influences to filter into the minds of our children and grandchildren.  Whatever happened to real PG rating?  That is exactly what it is; PARENTAL GUIDANCE; that is our job.  So, this Granna guides her grandsons right out the door.

While we were walking out toward the front I prayed, “Lord, if I am supposed to say something please let the conversation begin with those who work the theater.  Also, Lord, I am not going to say anything about a refund.  If You think I deserve one, You make it happen.  I’m just honored to walk out on Your behalf in protection for my grandchildren.”  As we are walking out, the nice, young gentleman who had previously taken our tickets asked, “Did you enjoy the movie?”  Which, I guess he did not realize the movie still had over an hour to go.  I mentioned to him that the movie was not over and that I walked out because it is not a movie my grandsons needed to watch.  Without me asking, he radioed the manager and let her know what I had just said.  He then said to me, “If you will just wait a moment, the manager wants to see you.”  So, I did.  The manager apologized, although it was not at all her fault, and proceeded to not only give me a refund but also 2 movie vouchers to come back!  I thanked her and thanked the Lord!  The blessings already were beginning to show up because we had taken a stand!

After we got back in the van, I told Jude, “Babe, I’m sorry we had to leave but it just wasn’t a very good movie, it had things in it we shouldn’t see or hear.”  He responded, “That’s okay, Granna.  We have other movies and the movies we got at the library!”  Oh, how he makes me smile!

So, our adventure just took a little detour.  We went to get something to drink and go play at the park!  Forget showtime, we made our own family time movie at the park!  Jude swinging was making his little brother, Reid laugh; me acting silly with them both made them laugh; they make me smile!

After arriving back at Granna’s we check the mailbox for mail and find another blessing!  Jude has received his first letter from one of several soldiers he had written!  I had been praying that Jude would get a response from them because of the heart he put in to writing these soldiers.  God’s timing is perfect! Thank you, to the soldier whose letter put a smile on Jude’s face!

The world can’t take away the joy God gives from day to day; from glory to glory; from smile to smile.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Now, please know this is just my opinion and you may think differently.  But, I do encourage you to find where you can also take a stand for Christ; for what is truth, for what is right and for what gives glory.
